Granny doesn’t normally discuss undergarments with the public but I suppose this contest doesn’t leave me much choice. While most of us remember little more about Fruit of the Loom than those silly men dressed in fruit costumes, the brand actually dates clear back to 1851, and yes, smarty pants, that was before my time.
The company was founded by two brothers, Robert and Banjamin Knight, in Rhode Island where they produced their first muslin, or cloth. Apparently a friend started painting the bolts of cloth with apples, and the brother’s adopted that to suit the now infamous Fruit of the Loom brand name. Fast forward to the year 2000, and the brand posted sales revenues of 2.5 billion dollars. Not too shabby for a company that started out at as a small textile mill.
But enough about them, I know what you’re really here for and it’s the $10,000 prize. Granted, this one is more involved than most of the sweepstakes I post as you have to come up with your own original jingle to enter. And that may seem a tall task, but you just never know what you might come up with until you try. And while some of the world’s most memorable jingles, such as McDonald’s “I’m loving it” was written by professional musicians, that one by John Legend and Justin Timberlake, that doesn’t mean that the average person can’t create something that can rival the best of all time.
I think it’s pretty cool that in addition to that massive lump of cash you will win, you’ll also have the satisfaction of hearing your jingle being used in advertising across the country.
I wish all of you subscribers and fans the very best of luck to win this contest. Let me know in the comments below which companies jingle you remember the best.
