Here we go with another chance to win big bucks to improve our outdoor living, and just in time for the weather to start to warm up. As a society on the whole, we are spending so much more time indoors with the ever increasing variety of electronic entertainment options from streaming movies, playing video games, and social media. That’s why I love a sweepstakes that emphasizes and encourages a way for us to get outside and off the many, many screens we live with everyday.

Of course, what you actually receive if you win this contest is a check for $5,000 that you can spend on anything you want. The cheeky among you may just want to spend that money on a new big flat screen TV, one of those fancy new video game consoles, or a new phone or tablet. I don’t blame you. The whole point is to spend the money on what makes you happy.

The wise among you might put this prize money in a savings account for a rainy day or for an emergency. Take it from someone with a few extra decades under their belt, sometimes life comes at you hard and fast with unexpected expenses. Even though one way to improve your current happiness would be to spend some dough on something fun, there is nothing more comforting than having a nest-egg in the bank so you don’t have to worry when the inevitable strikes.

I would love to do some improvements to my backyard, including seeding some new grass, building a fence, and building a deck to enjoy the beautiful warm sunlight when it starts to peak back out this year. A few pieces of outdoor furniture would sure be sweet too, so I wouldn’t just have to sit in the grass.
