I still remember back when the NY Giants quarterback Phil Simms proudly proclaimed “I’m going to Disneyland” sparking generations of athletes to make the same claim. I also remember the iconic Grizzwald family woes as they persevered comical accidents and tragedies in their determination to get to “Wallyworld”. Theme parks have long held a special place in the hearts and minds of Americans.
I also remember taking my kids to Disney World back in the 80’s. They couldn’t have been more excited, especially after seeing their favorite sports figures proclaiming it as their destination of choice. I think they actually expected see 49ers QB Joe Montana whizzing by on Space Mountain. Turns out you can’t see much of anything on Space Mountain besides your life flashing before your eyes. I’m not big on roller coasters but my kids were, so for the most part I would talk my hubby into riding with them. But every so often, I drew the “short straw” so to speak, and one of those times was on Space Mountain. Let’s just say it’s an experience I’ll never forget, and hubby has never heard the end of it.
Really though, it’s honestly priceless to see the joy and wonder in your children’s eyes as the characters and locations from their favorite movies and TV shows come to life. The excitement is admittedly contagious, and can even make the most curmudgeon of adults feel like a kid again. From the Magic Kingdom to Small World, the entire experience is truly magical. And not every ride sends you hurdling through the dark of night like Space Mountain, many are relaxing and bewildering even for Moms and Dads. In fact, I felt like I was reliving some of my less discriminating moments from the 60’s on the slow crawl of the Small World.
If you and your family have never been to Disney then I highly encourage you to enter this sweepstakes and wish you the absolute best luck to be the winner. It’s a once in a lifetime adventure that you will never forget and your children will be forever grateful for.
If you have been to Disney World, let me know in the comments below if you too drew the “short straw” and ending up hurdling through the cosmos on Space Mountain.
