Saddle up cowpokes, this here Stagecoach sweepstakes is sure to lasso the interest of young and old country music fans alike! Don’t worry, while that’s about the extent of the old west puns I can muster, this contest is chalk full of entertainment that centers around the heartland of America.
I’ve never been to a music festival, and I’m not really sure why. I like music, and I like festivities, but I never seem to bring to the two together. If I had to guess, it’s my proclivity to avoid crowds of people. My normally manageable anxiety levels shoot through the roof if I so much as think about a trip to the grocery store, sporting event or even a small friendly gathering, much less a full blown mini-Woodstock of sorts. Speaking of which, I had a chance to see that most famous of festivals at the little dairy town of Bethel, New York. One of my friends was determined to attend and bugged me day-in and day-out to be the co-pilot since the day it was announced.
I eventually acquiesced with reluctant hesitation, and so the trip was planned and monies were saved and admittedly, as the occasion drew closer, I started researching bands and perhaps even expressed some mild excitation.
On the morning of the big day, I awoke with a nervous giddyness, packed my belongings, and called up my pal to find out when she would be picking me up. “We’ve got a problem” she decried, without so much as a “Hello” to proceed it, in a clearly aggravated tone, “My car won’t start and I can’t find anyone to lend us one” she continued. We spent most of the rest of the day prodding friends and family to lend us their wheels, but to no real surprise no one was too keen on lending us a way to abscond across the country to what was deemed at the time as an “Aquarian Experience”. After accepting our defeat, we met up later, jammed to some Joplin and shared our dismay for our friends and relatives who just couldn’t weren’t “groovy” or “hip” enough to understand our cause.
This Stagecoach Music Festival, however, sounds more like a rocking good time and less like a political movement. It centers around country music with genres ranging from folk and bluegrass to mainstream and alternative country. Previous performers have included the likes of Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Willie Nelson, Rascal Flatts, Shania Twain and Luke Bryan. The current record of attendees is 75,000, which isn’t a number to sneeze at. The festival offers some limited on-site camping, showcases foods from corporate and boutique restaurants alike, and has even featured an Invitational BBQ Championship in the past.
If you’ve got your “achy breakey heart” set on attending, make sure to enter this sweepstakes from Grand Ole Opry. It includes accommodations, VIP passes and round-trip airfare, so you won’t get left sitting at home like I was back in 1969. Good luck to all my subscribers and fans and let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever been to a music festival, which ones you attended, and whether or not it was worth fighting the crowds to see your favorite bands!
